Description
IM2000 Self Spotting Machine
The Ironmaster IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine is the culmination of a decades-long process of designing a multi-functional gym machine that is compact, long-lasting, and easy to use.
Patterned after the traditional Smith machine but with notable improvements over its forerunner, the IM2000 allows you to do a wide range of exercises to target all your muscle groups without taking up a lot of space.
This is the latest model of the Ironmaster machine and while it has many improvements over older models, it still has the core design features that makes it so amazing to have in your gym. Our unique and patented quick-lock guided barbell system guarantees its smooth operation, long service life, and most importantly, your safety.
Extremely safe
With the IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine, you can train each body part in at least three different ways safely. It is packed with safety features like lockout holes that are accurately measured and placed at close intervals so you can have the confidence to work out on your own.
- Perform presses and squats alone without worrying about your safety.
- The lockout holes are only 1.7 inches apart to ensure that you won't get stuck while working out alone.
- Heavy-duty springs provide additional support for the lifting bar.
- Secondary safety stops offer added protection as well as limit the range of the cable system.
- This machine allows you to reach your maximum muscle failure without increasing your risk for injury.
Multi-functional and complete
You can target each body part in different ways using this versatile machine and the several attachments that are compatible with it. The IM2000 is the perfect self-spotting weight lifting system for any home gym owner who prefers doing full-body workouts.
- Train your shoulders, chest, back, arms, legs and core with this all-around training system.
- Perform a variety of exercises to target different body parts using the several attachments that you can connect to this self-spotting machine. (See the IM2000 poster for some of the exercises you can do with it.)
- You will find there almost unlimited ways to use this system.
Heavy-duty and long-lasting
The IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine is made of superior quality, commercial-grade materials and has a high weight load capacity for its lifting bar and cable system. Our unique patented design for its slide rails prevents friction and premature wear.
- The frame is constructed from 11 gauge structural steel.
- The lifting bar is rated for 1,000 lbs.
- The cable system is rated for 350 lbs.
- Our unique slide bushing and slide rail system do not require constant lubrication with grease. This means less mess and dirt sticking to your machine, which leads to premature deterioration.
- Unlike other multi-functional machines and designs that use plastic bushings, we use a special polymer bushing to ensure a smooth sliding action over our specially coated slide rails made of compatible materials.
- Our patented design for the IM2000 has proven its ability to perform smoothly and stand the test of time in schools, police and fire departments and commercial and home gyms around the world.
Space-efficient and relatively lightweight
The IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine was developed to give you optimum workout capabilities while occupying a relatively small footprint and weighing relatively less than commercial gym equipment. This is why it's perfect for home gyms or personal use.
- Frame dimensions are 48 inches wide x 48 inches deep, x 84.5 inches high.
- The lifting bar is 73 inches wide. It weighs 36 lbs with the Olympic Sleeve Adapters and 32 lbs without them. The grip width area of the bar is 42 inches and 1.25" diameter.
- We recommend allotting a floor space of 7 feet wide x 5-6 feet deep and a ceiling height of at least 87 inches for assembly clearance and use. (Note: you will need more height with the optional Ultimate Chin Up). If you have any questions regarding ceiling clearance, please contact Customer Service.
Ergonomically designed
The ergonomic design of the IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine allows you to perform exercises more effectively and naturally. With a simple modification of its parts, you can do a completely different set of exercises that target other parts of your body.
- The ergonomic lifting bar locks out to the front instead of to the back for a faster and more natural movement, making it easy to switch to heavier weights when doing press exercises like the bench press.
- The construction of the high/low pulley system that makes use of the weight carriage offers a smoother, more comfortable and free-flowing movement.
- The low pulley device has wheels that allow it to easily swing into place.
Budget-friendly
Using the base frame of the IM2000 Self-Spotting System as your foundation, you can build your own custom exercise machine by adding other attachments and accessories. This offers bigger savings compared to purchasing several different cages and machines or getting a membership at a commercial gym.
Easy to assemble
Apart from that, this machine comes with an assembly guide and hardware kit for easier installation.
- You only need two adjustable wrenches to put all the parts together.
- Your purchase includes a hardware kit that contains all the other tools you will need to set up your IM2000.
- Assembly and operating instructions are included.
Notes:
- The IM2000 Self-Spotting Machine is only the base model. The Super Bench, weights and other attachments shown in the photos are not included. They are sold separately and available for purchase in custom packages.
- Base unit includes the following:
- main frame
- lifting bar with Olympic adapters (for use with both standard and Olympic weight plates)
- standard plate holders
- lat pull bar
- upper and lower pulley/cable system
- Please allocate 2 weeks for shipping. This Ironmaster product is usually delivered via truck for the lower 48 US states. Please contact us if you want it delivered in other destinations.

This machine has been on my wish list for years....I have the adjustable dumb bells and super bench plus; all that was missing was the IM2000 to fulfill my home workout needs. When I saw it was 20% off during Labor Day I jumped on it. Super super happy to get it at that price. Assembly instructions were pretty clear, I needed another pair of hands to help stabilize the frame. The bar glides like a dream. I also got bar hooks so I can use a free bar. In short, this compact machine allows me to do all the exercises I consider essential to my fitness rountine. Very happy and satisfied with it! And Ironmaster customer service is excellent!
Steve Henry (Wellington, FL) | January 30th, 2024
The IM2000 is rock solid and extremely versatile. The bar slides like silk on the rails. I feel very safe using it solo. It's the ultimate foundation for any serious home gym.

Received the machine a few of weeks ago. Assembly was a little difficult for one person, but not impossible. Better with two, though. From a performance perspective I am pleased. I'm still formulating a workout routine, but I feel confident I can manage most of the common exercises within the parameters of what the machine can do. I am especially pleased with the size. For what it can do it takes up very little room, less than I had envisioned. So what's my regret? I made my purchase just a couple of weeks shy of the Fourth of July sale, where they knocked off 15%. Had I known that was coming, I would have waited just a bit. All in all, though, I am very pleased that I chose the Ironmaster over a traditional Smith.

This is the machine you want--whether or not you know it right now. The quality, safety features, and customer service are all terrific. The safety features mean I can lift on my own--my wife even started lifting once we got this put together. The footprint is smaller than I thought it would be.
Overall, this is a great piece of equipment.

The IM2000 machine is fantastic. It is well-built and has a relatively small footprint. It is commercial gym quality. I also have the super bench and a number of accessories which all work better than expected. The Ironmaster customer service is also outstanding. You will not be disappointed.

This machine is simply awesome. Its amazing how many different exercises you can do with it in such a small footprint. The engineering of it is spot on! I looked at machines for about a year that I could try and fit in my basement. Once the black Friday sale came on I ordered it right away. Ironmaster customer service is great also. I was able to have them shave 2.5" off of the machine so that it would fit perfectly under my basement ceiling and it fit perfect! I also ordered a bunch a accessories such as the super bench, adjustable dumbbells etc. etc. etc. all of which are equally amazing. Thank You Ironmaster.

I have been blown away with the quality of this equipment. If you are on the fence about investing in an IM2000 and the bench with some attachments, i would highly recommend you go for it. You will not be disappointed. All the equipment, bench, etc are impressive and built like tanks. The self spotting rack is smooth, the bench is solid, the leg extension piece is solid as well. I'm really glad i went with this system for my home. I would agree with all the other 5 star reviews that have been posted. I really love it and have been re-energized into lifting and using this machine for all it can do.
Note From Store Owner: Thank you Sean. We appreciate it!

Works for bench, and squat. High quality, and rarely needs lubricant to be applied.
Jack (United States) | June 6th, 2022
Works well, I reccomend.
Erik (Canada) | May 15th, 2022
I wanted to get back into training but while the place we moved had a decent amount of space, no rack, no matter how small would fit. But then...I remembered that I use and love the Ironmaster DBs...and so started taking measurements...then had to wait...and wait...and wait (thank you COVID). But it came and shipping was fast and not expensive. It's solid, is very quiet when I live and my wife loves it. With the bench and other accessories, I want for nothing. I'm very happy to have gone "all in" with Ironmaster. The goods are quality and everyone is very kind and helpful.

I purchased this machine in order to safely lift at home (on sale for under $1k!! with my military discount). Took a while for me to get it assembled and in use but I am very pleased. Shipping was reasonably quick - arrives in 3 cartons which are easily managed with a hand truck. Everything is packed very well and nothing was damaged. All the parts were present including every nut and bolt and washer along with needed allen wrenches. I assembled it myself on a Saturday afternoon without any difficulty - took me about 4 hours from moving the cartons into the room through loading the rack with my plates.
The action is very smooth as others have mentioned. I have yet to find the perfect way to string up the upper cable when not in use but it is out of the way. Quality is top notch. I have yet to use some of the attachments but look forward to it (especially the leg press plate). I am certain this will provide service throughout the rest of my days and easily outlive me. Stupid easy to recommend, especially when on sale!

Thank you to the great minds who made this machine, after looking so long like most for the ultimate gym equipment this was like a Godsend, so extremely happy with my purchase! Built like a tank, everything works so well and after the first use, you will instantly love the genius behind it all. Assembly can be done with one person (if you are strong) but I would suggest at a minimum two people but if you have more it's better. Maintenance is easy; some silicone spray from time to time and that's it! Buy it and your body will thank you.

I am thoroughly impressed with the IM2000 self spotting machine. This thing is so versatile it's insane! With the available attachments on offer every single exercise you can imagine can be done with this machine alone. I have all attachments currently on offer for this guy and it has completely replaced my need for a gym membership as I can do everything with this one machine that I could in the gym full of equipment. Pulley systems are on point, and provide the necessary variety needed to perform all manner of cable exercises. I actually prefer this over getting a cable machine functional trainer has that adds unnecessary complexity and cost. This thing is awesome at this price point and doesn't disappoint as the quality over all and movement with the plastic bushings instead of bearings is unmatched. I'm used to the ball bearing type assisted smith machines you find at the gym and after using the plastic bushing on rails type I'll never go back to the ball bearing systems. No snag and drag what-so-ever and action is extremely smooth with no play. Maintenance is also easy; just lightly coat the rails with dry silicon spray around every 30 days and you're done. Been using it for around a year and still functions as it did brand new out of box (post-assembly). If you're on the fence, I'd say you're safe to pull the trigger as the IM2000 is an awesome rack, can support a significant amount of weight which will cover any lifters requirements, and is the most versatile for the price. Sure there are more complex (and more expensive) systems out there, but there's definitely beauty in simplicity (and cost savings without sacrificing versatility). Now if only they'd bring back the Pec Dec attachment... Keep up the good work, Ironmaster!

Been meaning to write a review for this item for a while now. I used to own a powertec full rack with a cable tower back when I had a whole lot more space. Had to sell that when I moved. When I checked out the specs and footprint on the IM2000 I decided Id give it a go and make it fit. Ive had no regrets and Ive been amazed at how compact this unit is. The build quality and construction of the unit is extremely high. When compared to the powertec, the IM2000s steel is thicker and heavier. Also the paint is of higher quality and is less likely to chip. My powertec cage was very poorly packed and some pieces actually arrived bent. Never had that issue with Ironmaster. The versatility this cage offers is really an engineering feat. I love how the low pulley/lat rollers can be swung to the side or even removed. I purchased the bar hooks and spotters too so I have a total gym experience. Also the smith bar glides so smoothly. Now all I need is some luck with the dumbbell lottery and Ill have EVERYTHING I need at home! Great product and company.

Looks like I might be the "Ironmaster O.G. here. Got mine back in 1995.....still going strong. Obviously this brand is built to last.

My girlfriend has asked me for years to make a home gym, but I always thought it was silly for us, since we lived 1 block away from a major gym with everything I could ever need.
Then COVID came, and I soon realized the wisdom she had (and had a few I told-you-so moments as well lol). It took a while, but once I was able to get my hands on the IM-2000, I quit my gym and embraced the garage gym life.
Quite frankly, it is so much better.
First off, I was able to assemble the IM-2000 by myself in a couple of hours. It is well engineered, and the instructions are very easy to follow. It would definitely be easier with two people, but it is manageable even alone with some creativity. The cage itself is super efficient. It has just about everything you would need, high and low cable pulleys, integrated weight racks, smith machine, spotting arms, J cups, pull up bars, band attachments, land mine attachment, and a few more things I'm missing.
It's been a few months for me now, and I'm loving it. I have used every part of the IM-2000 (I got just about every add-on), and they all work wonderfully well. I had some heavy lifts to failure that the spotting arms did their job well with no problems and earned their keep. Smith machine portion of the IM-2000 works great as a calf raise machine. Pull ups, dips, lat pull downs, rows, all work smoothly. Switching out attachments is quick and easy.
I have found working out at home to save me a lot of time, and I haven't had to compromise my workouts in the slightest thanks to the ingenuity of the Ironmaster team. The fact that they fit so much functionality in such a small footprint with top quality construction, great pricing, and quick delivery is amazing. Thank you!

Two main tips for this monster:
1. If you ordered the "Ultimate Chin Up attachment" please read the installation instructions for it first, this attachment comes with its own set of bolts that you use to connect to the IM2000, this will save you 10 minutes of bolting and unbolting.
2. The base of the IM2000 has two main arms, both are labeled R and L, mine for whatever reason were switched. The best way to differentiate them apart "big hole is supposed to be on the bottom, small hole is supposed to be on the top" if you mix them up, you'll have a hard time attaching the uprights. Luckily I didn't run into that issue and somehow at 10:00PM saw the small fine print which made notes of the difference.
Otherwise, this is one SOLID piece of machinery, easy to put together and well worth the 3 months wait.

I bought all my home gym stuff from Ironmaster including the cable tower, IM2000 rack, super bench pro with leg, ab and preacher curl attachment. Also the olympic bar, bicep curl bar, collars, land mine attachment, leg press attachment, J hooks, safety rack attachment for squats, dip bars, 415 lbs. plate set 8 45 lb plates. I also bought the 150 lb dumbell set 5 years ago. I love Ironmaster, everything they make is quality and the best value for your money.

I can't say enough great things about this machine. It can be used in so many ways, it is unbelievable. I have the Ultimate chinup attachment, low row pulley plate, and the last pec dec attachment. I am so impressed by how smooth it operates. You don't have to buy the first can of Silicone spray as it comes in the box included with your purchase. It took 10 days to come in the mail. Ups let me know exactly where my packages were at all times. The IM2000 comes in 3 boxes and does not take that long to put together. I will be purchasing all the other accessories for it by September and I can't wait to use it with a free weight barbell and getting more weights. The price that you spend is so worth it as you can take it apart and throw it into a honda accord if you had to travel with it. The machine will last me 30 years or more and this company is only going to invent more attachments in the future that can make our training more intense. I LOVE THIS MACHINE SO MUCH.
Paul (Lakeside, AZ) | June 23rd, 2020
I did qiute a bit of shopping around before I decided to pull the trigger on this one, yes that is a lot of money but there is nothing out there that compares to it, for all the things that you can do with it in a small space. Yes, I had to wait for awhile because they were out of stock but it was worth it. I knew the quality was there, because I've already bought the super bench pro and attachments, so I knew that everything that has Ironmaster stamped on it is top notch. And this unit didn't disappoint either. I could have gotten away with the IM1500 half rack, but because my wife will be using it also the self spotting Smith machine had to be considered. I live this machine, the operation of the pulleys and the Smith machine is as smooth as any gym machine in a very small place. Everything works as intended, and customer service is impecabil.
Matthew (WAXHAW, NC) | April 8th, 2020
Love it. I was hesitant at first because the attached bar connection wasn't using ball bearings to track but it is super smooth. Tried 315lb bench to test and it worked great and felt safe. This machine allows me to do everything including leg presses which was the only thing I thought I would miss with my gym membership. Works like a charm and takes up a small amount of space.
Steven (Berkeley, CA) | March 29th, 2018
I originally dismissed this because I thought it was just a smith machine, but this is the best quality weightlifting unit on the market. You will not find anything more versatile for the price and space. I know because I tried finding it, and saw everything else out there you can buy. If youre like me, and scoured all over seeing what was available and were antsy about deciding, this is the one to get.
The IM2000 does a lot despite its sturdy 4x4 footprint. It will hold all of your weights, give you a high and low pulley, work as a free bar half rack, leg press, dip station, pec dec, and of course, a smith machine. It does all of these things well and with few compromises too. Elsewhere, they have some really nice units you can get that do some of the things this does, they cost many orders of magnitude more, they dont hold your weights, and they tend to be bigger than my entire apartment. Theyre also really convoluted in their construction and have a bunch of moving parts that can and do break, needing regularly and costly replacement. The only thing on this that can break is me when Im using it. Ive met people with the older units that have the same basic mechanisms to them, and they work just as well now as when they got them some 20-30 years ago. Thats why they give you a lifetime warranty: you wont use it.
If you get the free bar attachments and spotting arms, as a half rack, this thing is also solid. Nothing like the cheap stuff youll find in a sporting goods store. You can even bolt it down if you want the extra support, but Ive found no need, even when racking and unracking over 400lbs.
I like the high and low pulleys better than those Ive found in any gym Ive been to, largely because they give 1:1 resistance for the weight you put on there, and theyre rated for 350lbs. Most cables machines in a gym have you lifting a fraction of whats listed on the weight stacks, which tend to only go up to 200lbs at that. Im a strong guy, and I will never max out the weight I can put on this cable for any exercise. My only complaint is that the lifting bar weighs 30lbs, making that the lowest weight you can use on a pulley, but I found easy ways around that. If you have a small weight plate with a handle opening on it, you can easily place the hook that normally goes around the lifting bar through that. Additionally, if you have the Quicklock dumbbells, you can place the hook around the handle there, and it works just as well. You have to be careful not to let it go too low and hit the bar, but youd only be doing this for 2 to 27.5 lbs, so its not an issue.
The smith machine is also great, has no moving parts or bearings to break, and glides like glass if you keep it lubed. Its also easier to lock and unlock than a commercial smith machine, and has a wider array of heights to do that at.
Ive had mine for a while now, and I really love it. It works as well as the day I got it. I mostly wish Id gotten it sooner. On its own, its a solid unit. With some cheap accessories like the free bar holders, leg press plate, or pull-up attachment, its suddenly a 4x4 fully featured gym. Be sure to get the dumbbells and bench too. Mines fully decked out and I have no regrets, only gains. This is one of the greatest purchases Ive ever made, next to buying a dog.

I've been using the IM2000 for a little over two years and I've gotta say I just Love this machine! It was a gift from my wife for my 55th birthday. She was sick of hearing me complain about dumping my barbell first on my chest, and then to the floor after failing my last rep. Man that used to really tick me off. Well, the IM2000 is the answer. I can now max out my reps SAFELY ! To be honest, I was a bit skeptical of a smith type machine without a bearing rail system. I thought the sliders on the rails would have a tendency to "stick". I assembled the IM2000 myself in less than two hours without any problems. The instruction manual was very legible. And to my delight, the bar moved up and down with NO sticking whatsoever. Soooo smooth! All the attachments and accessories we've purchased are extremely well made and also have a nice smooth action. It takes no more than a minute or two to swap out cables for your next set of exercises. We had minimal space in our exercise room but the IM2000 fit with room to spare. This is a very versatile piece of equipment and for the money, you won't find a better quality home gym system. I would strongly recommend the wheel kit for the super bench because it's a beast.

I finally made the purchase after a two year delay, my only regret now was waiting this long to buy this beauty, it does everything I need for a full body workout, IronMaster IM 2000 has exceeded my expectations and anyone thinking about buying one should. I love its compact design, I was worried about the size since I planned on setting it up in my bedroom, but after careful planning it fits perfectly with plenty of room to spare, I already had my IronMaster Super Bench from a previous purchase from IronMaster, so I ended up buy the IM 2000 attachments separately
1) bar hooks
2) spotting arms
3) dip handles
4) ultimate chin-up bar
I spent more than I wanted but worth every penny. I really enjoy the fact that not only is it a machine but buying the spotting arms and bar hooks its a free weight rack too. The IM 2000 feels exactly like free weights so if your bench pressing 270 with free weights it will be exactly that with the IM 2000, its a wonderful design that no other machine can match, Im a very happy customer thank you IronMaster.

IM2000 is Fantastic
This equipment is a thing of beauty. My wife (who doesn't lift and never did, although she's athletic, a skier, yoga, etc.) came back from an overseas trip today (she missed the delivery, the install, and the cleanup) to find all this neatly set up and ready to go, including the alien-looking organizer w/ all the attachments hanging on it, and said, "It looks fantastic". It does.

Incredible Product, Even Better Customer Service! I got my IM2000 as a demo from the store and when it shipped, it was missing a few pieces. Ironmaster squared me up right away and mailed me the missing pieces so I could finish building it, talk about customer service!! Now onto the machine, it's well built & solid like all the other Ironmaster products. It tucks just underneath my garage door (literally 2") and really is an all in 1 machine. The cables are smooth, the smith machine is smooth, I LOVE IT! I'm an Ironmaster customer for life!

Best Machine on the Market This machine is amazing! It allows me to get all my workouts in right at home without taking up to much space. If you are looking for a machine that does everything you need this is it. My home gym is now complete thanks to my IM2000. The Ironmaster team provides top of the line products along with excellent customer service. The only thing I regret is waiting this long to make my purchase, so don't hesitate if you are building a home gym this is a must!!!!

Love it! This equipment is fantastic! Extremely tough, yet compact. You can do all your free weight exercises, and add the smith machine wherever you like. The cable system is as smooth as silk. You can even do low rows on this machine! The pec dec is fantastic, and the bench is the toughest I've seen. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is serious about a home gym. The people at Ironmaster are fantastic to work with. You wont be disappointed.

Best gym equipment for your home. The IM2000 is the absolute staple in home gym fitness. With its small 4x4 foot print there is absolutely no rival for what it can do for its size. The design is so simple yet pure genius, and you can tell a lot of thought went into this machine. Cable workouts ranging from lat work to cable bicep curls, free weight bench press, Smith machine shoulder work. You name it can do it and do it extremely well. I just ordered the new olympic bar holders and spotting arms and can't wait to get them.
